What made you decide to get published?
I've always enjoyed writing,
ever since I could. I'd write short stories, which then progressed onto fan fiction (usually Mary-Kate and Ashley stuff,
for some reason), and then I started writing my own stuff. It wasn't until I finished Haunted that I realised I could
maybe be a published author too. And so began the journey.
How many books have you written?
Quite a fair few. Haunted has at least four other written books in the series. Some that I like, some I don't. I
wrote those, not only because I wanted to, but because it was good experience. Then I have other books I would like to see
published, and others I...wouldn't. It all helps, though!
Do you get your inspiration from other books?
I get my inspiration from a lot of things. Books, films, music, just watching people on the train. It all comes from
somewhere. But I do not read a book and decide to write my own version. That is plagerism, and it's not right to do that.
Which story on your 'stories' page would you like to see published the most?
I would have to say My Heart Be Damned. I'd like any of them to be published, but that one is where my heart really
lies. I like that I can do so much with it.
Why is there no first chapter of 'My Heart
Be Damned' for download?
I'll put one up at some point. But right now, I'd rather you go to my
blog and read the extracts I have there.
What do you enjoy the most about writing?
The fact I can delve into someone else's world for a little while, and the rules are all mine. I determine what
happens - when the characters let me anyway - and it's nice to get away for a bit. I also like being around my characters,
as weird as that sounds.
All your work is YA. Why is that?
I, personally,
don't feel like I've experienced enough life lessons to be able to write for adults. I barely am one, and writing
for them would sound like I'm guessing or making assumptions based on what I believe is what happens. I've already
been a teen. I know how it goes, how it feels. Plus, I enjoy reading YA as much as I enjoy writing it.
Any
advice to new writers?
Just keep writing. Push through any writers block if you are truly serious about your
work. Complete your story before you think about trying to get it published.
