My Heart Be Damned

My most recently written story, and the one I feel most passionately about.

Amerie Carter has the bloodline of a Hunter – unfortunately. The day Amerie hits sixteen, she’ll have the power to hunt the Damned – a group of escaped souls from Hell that take up residence in human bodies. Never has she dreaded a birthday more. And when she finally turns sixteen, her mother is killed by one of the Damned, leaving Amerie mentor-less and motherless.

So she quits. All evidence of being a Hunter is locked away in boxes under the bed and in the back of her mind. Who wants to deal with blood and death anyway? Amerie’s way more interested in school and the mysterious guy at her new job, Marshall. Though he’s everything she can’t stand, there’s a pull neither can ignore.

When the Damned start showing up wherever Amerie is, hell bent on killing her, Marshall comes to the rescue and Amerie finds that he’s not what she first thought. Marshall claims to be her guardian and convinces her to begin Hunting again. He knows which Damned killed her mother. As Amerie focuses on revenge, Marshall focuses on deceit. And his secret could be more destructive to Amerie than all the Damned in the world combined.

The City of Fallen Flesh

It has been five years since a virus spread throughout the world, turning humans with certain genes into flesh eating mutants. For seventeen-year-old Melody Queen, it’s not the murderous mutants that make her new world hard to live in; it’s the fifty foot walls built around uninfected towns that keep the mutants locked out, and her trapped inside.  For Melody, her wish is not for a world she once knew, but for the knowledge and understanding of what the world has become.

When Melody’s sister finds a way over the wall to find a lost loved one, Melody gets her wish. She’s the only one who knows where her sister would be, and the Guard – who usually protect the wall using special abilities the virus created – need her help if they’re going to find her sister alive. Melody sets off, armed with her best friend, for a journey that will change her life forever.

As the journey turns into a battle between human and mutant, Melody is torn between her loyalty to her friend, and her growing love for a guard - Jayden. With her heart raging a war against her friend for Jayden’s affection, and her head trying to keep her alive, Melody realises she’s not going to succeed without a fight. But she’ll have Jayden and her sister home safely – no matter the cost. Even if death is the price she pays.

Haunted

Harley Crown isn’t your average sixteen-year-old girl. Sure, she may like boys, hanging with friends and shopping for clothes, but she has a pesky job she can never get away from. Harley can see spirits, and it’s her job to help these spirits to move on. Not only does she have a new school to deal with, a dysfunctional family she loves to hate, and a bunch of spirits following her every move, but she also has to deal with the arrival of vampires, and the organisation sent to destroy them.

After Harley is attacked one night, she is told the story of vampires by a school friend, Casey, at a sleepover. The other girls dismiss the tale, but Harley suspects Casey isn’t just a typical bystander. She isn’t. Casey harbours powers of her own, and it’s her father who brought the organisation to the town in order to search for the key to a poison that could end all demonic activity for good. Harley, desperate for a distraction from the increase in evil spirits haunting her, agrees to help in the organisation’s quest, using her own powers to help them.

Except things aren’t as black and white as she thinks. Harley suspects the organisation aren’t as innocent as they claim, using methods of torture to get what they need. When the vampires start using more humane methods of searching for the key, Harley begins to wonder if she’s on the right side. Especially when she learns one of the vampires is the boy she’s fallen for.
